Love the colorful planters in downtown Hagerstown? Good News Hagerstown designs and cares for the 11 planters along Franklin Street, and we are planning an October class to share the techniques behind them.
Learn how to combine height, fullness, and trailing plants; choose plants for your light conditions; and get container size, potting mix, drainage, watering, and seasonal care right. The proposed workshop includes a demonstration, hands-on planting, and a simple care guide. Beginners are welcome.
Join our October class interest list and tell us whether a weekday evening or weekend works best. We will share the date, Hagerstown location, and class fee before registration opens. There is no payment or commitment to join the interest list.
Net proceeds will help support GNH projects, including Angel Tree. Email goodnewshagerstown@gmail.com with the subject October gardening class, or call 240-310-4487.

Neighborhood Beautification & Intergenerational Programs
Our Neighborhood Beautification initiative is focused on transforming low-income areas into vibrant, welcoming, and green community spaces. Building on last year’s work—where we revitalized spaces like Hub City Vineyard with thousands of flowers and shrubs—we are expanding our impact in a powerful new way.
This year, we are launching intergenerational beautification programs, bringing together children, families, and older adults to plant, design, and care for gardens throughout the community. From pollinator gardens to hands-on planting classes, participants learn about nature, sustainability, and teamwork while creating something meaningful together.
These shared experiences build connection across generations, teach responsibility, and give participants a sense of ownership and pride in their neighborhoods. More than just planting flowers, we are creating spaces that promote mental wellness, community engagement, and long-term environmental stewardship.
Together, we are cultivating a greener, healthier, and more connected Hagerstown—one garden at a time.
Offering essential resources to families in need.
